Why Choose Custom Enamel Pins

Premium Finish

Premium Finish

Polished metal and filled enamel give a pin a weight and shine that printing cannot match.

Built To Last

Built To Last

Metal and fired enamel do not fade, fray, or wear, so a pin outlives most merchandise.

Hard Enamel VS Soft Enamel Pins

Surface & Texture

Surface & Texture

  • Hard Enamel: Enamel is filled level with the metal lines and polished flat, giving a smooth glass-like surface.
  • Soft Enamel: Enamel sits recessed below the raised metal lines, giving a textured surface you can feel.
Durability

Durability

  • Hard Enamel: The flat polished face resists scratching, which suits pins worn daily over years.
  • Soft Enamel: Recessed enamel is protected by the raised metal, though the surface shows wear sooner.
Detail & Depth

Detail & Depth

  • Hard Enamel: Clean and precise, but very fine metal lines are harder to hold at small sizes.
  • Soft Enamel: The raised metal outlines read sharply, and dimensional depth makes artwork pop.
Cost & Best Use

Cost & Best Use

  • Hard Enamel: Higher unit cost. Chosen for awards, corporate pins, and premium collectibles.
  • Soft Enamel: More economical. Chosen for merchandise runs, events, and fundraising pins.

Why Choose Enamel Pins

Five decorative enamel pins with gold-tone borders are arranged on a dark textured surface. The pins feature medical and academic-themed designs: a trophy, a shield with an open book and flame, a tree of life, a caduceus symbol, and an American flag motif.

Hard Enamel Pins

Polished flat to a smooth finish with no texture underfoot. The traditional choice for awards, membership pins, and anything intended to be kept rather than worn for a season.

Five military-style enamel pins with gold borders are arranged on a dark textured surface. The pins feature various insignias including a trophy, an open book and star, a tree, a caduceus, and an American flag motif.

Soft Enamel Pins

Raised metal outlines with recessed colour, which gives visible dimension and a tactile surface. The most ordered style for merchandise because it delivers impact at a lower unit cost.

A set of five military-style enamel pins and a matching pin back in a metallic antique gold finish, displayed on a dark textured background. The designs include a star with laurels, a lion rampant, a tree of life, a caduceus, and an American flag.

Die Struck Pins

Metal only, with no enamel fill, relying on polished and recessed surfaces to carry the design. Understated and well suited to monograms, crests, and corporate lapel pins.

Five round pinback buttons with printed scenic and pet-themed designs, arranged on a dark textured surface with one button showing the gold-tone metal clasp backside.

Printed & Photo Pins

Full-colour printing under a clear epoxy dome, which reproduces photographic images and gradients that enamel cannot hold. The right choice when artwork is too complex for metal lines.

A set of nine colorful enamel lapel pins arranged on a dark textured fabric background. The pins feature various designs including a smiley face, an astronaut on a crescent moon, a black heart with a star outline, a duck in a green hoodie, a pink dripping smiley face, a skeleton hand making the rock on gesture, a skull with red roses, a flame, a black 8-ball, a teddy bear, and a gold-toned pin back.

Brand & Merchandise Pins

Pins have become a merchandise category in their own right for apparel labels, bands, artists, and streetwear brands building collectible product lines.

Six military-style enamel pins arranged on a dark textured background. The top row features four round gold pins with laurel wreaths and numbers 5, 10, 15, and 20.

Awards & Recognition Pins

Service anniversaries, safety milestones, and membership tiers, produced in hard enamel with plating that distinguishes each level of recognition.

A set of seven colorful enamel pins arranged on a dark blue textured fabric background. The pins feature symbols for global cooperation, pink awareness, diversity, a handshake, diversity hands, and a donation box.

Events & Fundraising

Conferences, campaigns, and charity drives use pins as a low-cost item with high perceived value, which makes them effective at raising funds.

Why Choose The Custom Patches For Custom Enamel Pins

01
A black and white line drawing of the Ferrari shield logo featuring the rearing horse emblem.

The Custom Patches builds a dedicated die for every pin, which delivers crisp metal lines and consistent enamel fill across the full run. Die quality is what separates a sharp pin from one with soft, muddy detail.

02
A classic Ferrari shield logo featuring a yellow background, a black rearing horse, and the letters 'S F' at the bottom, bordered by green, white, and red stripes.

We use quality base metals, Pantone-matched enamel, and durable plating so pins keep their colour and shine well beyond the first season. Plating thickness is matched to how the pin will be used.

Our team reviews your artwork for producibility before the die is cut, flags anything that will not hold at your chosen size, and handles single design orders as readily as full merchandise programmes.

Custom Enamel Pins For Apparel

Refine your pins with a range of customisation options so every design is unique. Choose your plating, enamel colours and effects, shape, size, and backing type.

Six shield-shaped pins with star and laurel designs are displayed above matching round discs on a dark textured background. The pins and discs show different metal finishes: gold, silver, dark gunmetal, bronze, copper, and an iridescent rainbow finish.

Plating & Metal Finishes

Choose gold, silver, black nickel, antique brass, copper, or rainbow plating. Plating sets the character of the pin as much as the enamel does, and it changes how each colour reads against the metal.

A set of eight colorful enamel lapel pins arranged on a dark textured background. The pins feature various designs including a rainbow, a night mountain scene, crystal formations, a green moon over mountains, a blue wave, a starry night sky, a tropical sunset with palm trees, and two gold-toned metal pin backs.

Enamel Colours & Effects

Colours are Pantone matched at the enamel stage. Glitter, glow-in-the-dark, translucent, and screen-printed details can be added, and an epoxy dome gives a raised protective finish over the face.

A set of 12 enamel lapel pins and gold-toned metal pin blanks arranged on a dark textured background. The designs include a wolf head, a koi fish, a rocket ship, a starry night landscape, a USA map silhouette, a helicopter propeller, an astronaut, a sugar skull, and two blank gold-toned profile and cat-head shapes.

Sizes, Shapes & Cutouts

Pins are typically produced between 20 mm and 50 mm and cut to any outline, including interior cutouts. Moving parts such as spinners, sliders, and danglers can be built into the design.

A set of metal enamel pins and pin backs arranged on a dark textured surface. The collection includes a wolf head pin on a scenic night-sky card, a round mountain landscape pin on a dark card, a gold outline state-shaped pin, a black shield-shaped pin, and several gold and silver pin back components.

Backing & Attachment

Choose a butterfly clutch, rubber clutch, locking back, or magnetic back. A custom back stamp can be added to the reverse, and pins can be mounted on printed backing cards for retail display.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each design requires its own die, so pins carry a minimum quantity and a one-time die cost. That cost does not repeat, which means reorders of the same design are considerably cheaper than the first run. Send us your design and quantity and we will confirm both figures.

Butterfly clutches are the standard and suit most merchandise. Rubber clutches grip more firmly and are better for pins worn on soft fabric or in motion. Locking backs are the right choice for awards and anything valuable enough that losing it matters.

Vector artwork is best since every coloured area on a pin has to be separated by a metal line. Raster images can be converted, and we will do that for you. Very thin lines and small text may need thickening to survive production, and we flag anything at risk before the die is cut.

Quality plating resists tarnishing, and enamel does not fade. Hard enamel holds its polished surface longest because the face is flat and level. Soft enamel shows surface wear a little sooner, since the raised metal lines take contact first.
